Are you interested in enhancing your skills to work with refugees in a mental health setting? This presentation is designed to deepen your understanding of the unique experiences and needs of refugees and immigrants, while strengthening the ability of mainstream professionals to deliver culturally-responsive services to this population. This in-person training offers 3.0 free CEUs through the Ohio CSWMFT Board.

9:30-10:30am Cultural Sensitivity: Mental and Behavioral Health for Muslim Patients
This workshop highlights the importance of cultural competence in healthcare for Muslim patients. It covers key Islamic practices, perspectives on mental health, and cultural factors like stigma and misconceptions that affect access to care. Best practices for effectively engaging Muslim patients will also be shared.
10:30-11:30am Preparing Your Family For Immigration Enforcement
This presentation will cover action steps for families and individuals facing the risk of deportation.
11:30-11:50am A Grounding Moment
This short presentation will include a description of how anxiety, burnout and vicarious trauma show up during these difficult times, and will include a grounding activity at the end.

On-Demand Trainings
Switchboard’s mission is to provide comprehensive support and guidance to professionals and organizations involved in refugee resettlement. Switchboard is implemented by the International Rescue Committee (IRC).
The BSBB trainings infuse culture and diversity throughout foundational workshops on suicide prevention and mental health. Community members learn to act as eyes and ears for mental health and suicidal distress, and to connect individuals to help or support.
